Overview
The Shine Effect is a full-time, ministry minded, 4-piece energetic Christian rock/worship band from Jacksboro, TN striving to answer the call God has placed on their lives to serve Him and minister to others through music and testimonies. The band is made up of Josh Roberts (Vocals/Guitar), wife Christa Roberts (Drums), Josh’s brother Ben Roberts (Bass/Backup Vocals), and Ben’s wife Maria Roberts (Keyboard/Vocals). The band was a 3-piece from 2011-2016 until Maria joined the stage in 2017.
All of us in the The Shine Effect have committed our lives to Jesus Christ and His call on our lives as full-time musicianaries (music missionaries). Our calling is to encourage, challenge, and grow the church, as well as reach out to the lost through our music and testimonies, while building relationships along the way. Our mission is to love people, on and off stage, with the incredible love of Jesus Christ. Our passion and desire is to clearly share the Gospel through our music, testimonies, and conversations.

Opportunities
We have seen God work in many different ways in The Shine Effect, and have had the amazing privilege to be a part of countless salvations and rededications, lives that have been forever changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ! Our ministry is not limited to the stage as we have been able to pray for, and give guidance and counsel to many kids, teens, and adults in the areas of self-harm, suicide, depression, abuse, lust, family relationships, etc. It’s been incredible and humbling to be used by God in these areas to make a real difference in people’s lives while sharing the songs and messages that God has given us, and we look forward to the opportunities ahead!
References
What can I possibly say about The Shine Effect that would come close to describing these incredibly talented, gifted, humble, courageous, unashamed, musicians, artists, servant warriors and ministers of the Gospel? They have a musical style all their own…one with a sound and with lyrics that resonates powerfully with the young and “less” young alike…one that meets people where they are and powerfully delivers a Message of life changing…Power!
We are commanded by Jesus to “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Christa, Josh, and Ben Roberts are on the front lines and meeting people where they are with a heart to change the world…and all while lighting up every stage and event venue they play! And just in case you’re wondering…they have the talent to play any stage, anytime, anywhere, to any audience. They’re the real deal…in more ways than one.
I can’t speak highly enough about Christa, Josh, and Ben. They are incredible to work with and a true blessing to those around them. Do not miss the opportunity to work with these incredible musicians, talented speakers, and “Bringers of the Message”! The more I think about them, the more impressed I am with them.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me about my experience with Josh, Christa, and Ben Roberts…The Shine Effect.

When The Shine Effect was booked at our regular Celebrate Recovery meeting, many (especially our elder members) did not know what to expect. The group’s musical stylings deviated from the regional/traditional norms just enough to draw interest, especially from a younger, often all-to-hard-to-attract, crowd. The recovery-centered message of the songs performed by The Shine Effect were bolstered and validated by the testimonies of the band’s members. When their performance ended, we were high on Recovery, buzzing with the spirit, and The Shine Effect made Celebrate Recovery the talk of our small town.

I want to give The Shine Effect my full endorsement for doing ministry at your church or event. I have had the band do several events for my ministry and they always do a great job. The band is professional, arrives on time, has great equipment, sets up, sound checks and tears down very effectively. All of their merchandise is professional looking and at a great value. The Shine Effect listens to sound advice and uses wisdom in their decision making like allowing God to bless their ministry rather than charging huge honorariums or fees to play. I have been impressed most by their ability to relate to adults as well as young people through their music. I have had the honor and privilege to meet their parents and it is easy to see why they are such Godly young people. I owned a booking agency called MTL Booking and Management and would have loved to have them on my artist roster. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I was unfamiliar with The Shine Effect until they contacted our church. They were passing our way to play another venue and asked if we were interested in having them play for our youth group. I said “yes” and I’m so glad I did. The music was incredible! Their set up was easy and professional, but what really stood out was their passion for the Lord and their love for people. By the end of the night, I was hooked and had made some new friends. The Lord has His hand on their music as well as their hearts. Having The Shine Effect play for my youth or any other group is a no-brainer. They rock for Jesus and have a good time doing it. I look forward to the next time we get to see them.

The Fire Escape Christian teen club highly recommends The Shine Effect. As a band their music is great. From Worship to high energy Rock their music reaches their audience with the message of Christ. The Fire Escape reaches out to kids nobody else wants. Most of them are unbelievers but each and every one of them loves The Shine Effect. TSE is one of the most effective Christian bands we have had at our venue. As individuals, Josh,Christa and Ben walk the walk and talk the talk. They are what they appear. The Fire Escape loves them and I personally love them.

From the first conversation we had with The Shine Effect, we knew that they were passionate about God, and driven to reach as many as possible with the platform they have been given. At Preaching Christ Church we urge Genuine Christianity, and it doesn’t get anymore genuine than The Shine Effect. The material and message that they incorporate in the songs and ministry time is absolutely life changing. Without question the best group of individuals I have had the opportunity to work with.

My name is Stephanie Webb my husband and I are the coordinators for an annual Christian Rock music festival in the Morristown area called Jam4theLamb. We normally host 7 to 9 bands to play at this event. Out of those bands, The Shine Effect holds a special place in our heart. Christa, Josh and Ben are truly anointed by God. They spread the gospel message through their music and testimonies. Their music glorifies the Lord and they are the only band that we have ever had to bring their bible on stage and read scripture during their set! Most of the time Christian Rock music is not necessarily enjoyed by the older generation, but The Shine Effect can bridge the “generational gap”. We have had so many of our elders from our church come to us and tell us how much they enjoy their music and testimonies. Our Youth Group love them because they take the time to get to know them. They will talk with them and most importantly pray with them before and after their show. They will even keep up with them on Facebook. Overall, this is a Spirit filled band that is following the path that God has for them and that we love very much. We will continue to use them for Jam4theLamb and in our home church as well for as long as God allows.

Shine Effect, WOW, is how I put it. Not only is their music edgy and uplifting, it lifts up the name of Jesus. That’s not all, their testimonies touch so many and are spot on with the word of God. Shine Effect rocks out for Jesus!

It is with great pleasure and confidence that I write this letter of recommendation for The Shine Effect. They have been at my church (where I currently serve on the church board and oversee the sound dept.) on more than one occasion and were an absolute delight for all who were involved to work with! Their level of professionalism and the manner in which they represent the Lord and minister is top notch – both in the quality of their music and the way they personally interact with those promoting the event and those who are attending. On a personal note, I would like to say that although I am in my early 50’s, I too play in a Christian rock band and have had the opportunity several times to work with The Shine Effect at other events as well. They displayed the same heart for the Lord and sincerity to minister at each of these other events too. Having played full-time professionally back in the day with both a Contemporary Christian group and a Southern Gospel group, I had the opportunity to work with many bands and artists and occasionally was disappointed with the lack of sincerity and Christian commitment that was displayed by certain groups and individuals. I’m glad to say that The Shine Effect is the real deal! Ben, Josh, and Christa are also some of the nicest and most likeable people you’ll ever meet! I value The Shine Effect’s ministry and friendship and recommend that you invite them to minister at your church, venue, or event!

I encountered “The Shine Effect” at a tent revival in Virginia and they left me speechless. Up on the stage, they revealed their love for Jesus with each song that was played. Off the stage, they demonstrated a servant’s heart for each person they interacted with. I believe that God has called them to be His messengers and praisers to this generation. May God continue to bless them with each open door. They are amazing!

Our first and only (so far!) experience was very pleasant. The Shine Effect professionally communicated well and was very responsible. From the stage, they were very entertaining and engaging with our teen audience. They took time to speak from the stage and share their testimonies and convictions, which our venue encourages. Off stage, they were very approachable for the teens; they took time to talk with a teen 1:1 about a spiritual need. From the first contact to our good byes the night of the event, The Shine Effect carried themselves very well and their passion to serve Christ through their music is very evident. We can’t wait to have them back at our venue.

The Shine Effect joined us for our 1st annual celebration of Celebrate Recovery a month ago. Not only did they put on a great show the night of the event but they stayed the weekend! They joined us as a church family that Sunday and performed an acoustic set for all three services! What an honor it is to have such humble servants join us for a weekend of celebration witnessing the miracles our God performs. Thank you Josh, Christa, Ben and Maria Roberts! Not only do you guys rock! you SHINE! as well… God bless!

From the first time I met these guys, I knew they were “Spirit of GOD” led in their ministry. What a blessing to see our youth of America singing out worship in a modern way to reach other youth and adults for God! Hearing the testimonies of Josh, Christa and Ben adds to the reality that what they are singing about is REAL. I’ve seen them in concert 3 times and they were better each time. I look forward to our paths crossing again so once again we can worship our God together.

My opinion of “The Shine Effect” at first meeting these three “as a music ministry”, I found that they were “real” in the intent of trying to reach out to whoever would hear of the love of Jesus! They use their platform to reach out to those who may not give Christianity a chance otherwise. To be quite frank, these guys were a great image of Christ. Caring and polite, in the way they deal with other people. In saying that, I give “The Shine Effect” a shout out for being Christ-like!

The Shine Effect has had the most professional approach both in networking with other local bands and venues as well as merchandising and promoting their own image. The Shine Effect came and ministered to our CR group in Candler, NC earlier this year and what an experience! They shared their testimonies and blessed us with their anointed music. This band is great. There is so much bad stuff that goes on in Jellico and the group always brings the youth out in numbers. On a personal note, these kids with their music has helped me… I lost my daughter 5 years ago and every time I hear them it feels like I’m closer to her. This is a awesome group of kids. Wish them the best and huge success.

If you are reading this letter you are likely considering having The Shine Effect perform (minister) at your church, event or venue. I highly recommend that you take advantage of this group’s gifts and talents. I first met Josh, Christa and Ben Roberts a couple of years ago at an event in La Follette, TN. I was impressed with their energy, their ability to connect with the audience, as well as their musical talent, yet all that was overshadowed with their very apparent love for Jesus. Since that time they have ministered at Three Rivers and have stayed in our home. They came to our church to be a part of our Coffee House Night on a Saturday and to be a part of Cross Training on Tuesday. They shared their testimonies during Sunday Worship and did a couple of songs after church before tearing down to go do an event in Wartburg, TN. The two events at Three Rivers both went very well (was a blast, rocked, crazy fun) and our young people are anxious to have them back. As I mentioned, the group stayed in our home these four nights and on another occasion. It was a joy having them in our home. I do not think you will find a finer group of young adults as these three.

I am honored to introduce you to “The Shine Effect”, to whom I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the past couple of years. Not only are they a pleasure to listen to, but they seek to glorify God through their lyrics and music. The Shine Effect have a heart for the message of the Gospel. I can also assure you that they practice what they preach. They attempt to live their lives “above reproach”. They are also very missional. I first met these wonderful people back in 2011. They were playing battle of the bands. Hardly did I know that we would cross paths again and that I would not only call them the “Shine Effect” but also my friends. They have played at several events here in Jellico, TN. Celebrate Recovery, Youth Rally’s, and we had the wonderful privilege of having them at our daughter’s sixteenth birthday party.
Their music is powerful and life transforming. Each song has a story behind it and Gods hand in it. These guys’ are extremely talented and extremely on fire for God. Their music and testimonies has touched many lives here in Jellico, TN, and I know God is using them for the work of the Kingdom.

My experience with the Shine Effect Simply put….WOW! It was absolutely an awesome night. Our CR is relatively very small, with a usual crowd of 10 to 15. But the night The Shine Effect was there, it was standing room only. This group is truly a huge blessing to me and so many others I’m sure. Jesus shines through there music and testimonies. They are some of the most kind hearted and loving group of Jesus freaks I know. And they really know how to reach the youth. All the youth I know absolutely love these guys. I’m looking forward to hearing them on the radio one day, because I know they are just that good at what they do. Not only are they my brothers and sisters in Christ, but I’m honored to call them my friends as well.

Elkins Summit Celebrate Recovery would like to express their gratitude to the “SHINE EFFECT BAND” and share their blessings from having them for an evening of Praise and Worship as they Praise and share the testimony of the Lord’s work in their lives. Marty and Edie Basil, Ministry Leaders at Summit CR would like to say that the band’s show will “affect and infect you” with passion… they share themselves and for sure, the Lord shines through them – they’re genuine and honest with a humble attitude which is felt and expressed through their music, they are unique and have a great work for the broken and the ministry the Lord has given them in these dark days… but the Shine Effect is called for such a time as this to pierce the darkness of many souls light of life! Their style will captivate you and no doubt “shock and awe” the devil… for God gets the glory in their lives! They rock for sure for the ROCK of AGES!!! Ben, Maria, Christa and Josh Roberts are the real deal. They are great musicians and writers, but that is not what makes them special in my eyes. In our experience as youth pastors, we have met and worked with several ministries and music ministries over the years through various events in our community. Thus far, we have yet to meet a group as humble, talented, and real as The Shine Effect. Josh, Christa, and Ben Roberts are a talented group of musicians that obviously have an awesome ability to keep an audience captivated of any age group. They have always arrived on-time (or earlier), very respectful of their surroundings and each person they encounter. They are also very organized and conduct themselves as if they were born to do this. Their songs are lyrically honest and music to match, but they have something beyond a “great sound”. They have the character of Christ and are a pleasure to work with. During their shows, The Shine Effect gives more than a concert, they give their hearts. Their transparent testimonies and real life approach is infectious and opens the door the Spirit of God to minister through them. As youth ministers, it is most important that we expose our group to people who live and breath the word of God and for us, The Shine Effect are those people. We will have them as often as we can and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for the real deal.
*As a side note, their CD is what is in my car ALL the time.

The Shine Effect…..WOW! The first thing that comes to my mind when you say The Shine Effect is REAL men and woman of God who love spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and not just entertaining. I have been around Christian “entertainers” who love putting on a show but lack an experience with the God they are singing about. Not the case with this band. Although very entertaining, their message is strong and effective thru the Holy Spirit and this is simply because of their true love and daily walk with an awesome God. A ministry that can have fun thru their music as well as usher in the presence of God thru their sincere worship. Love these guys and I would highly recommend them anywhere you want to see The Lord show up!

I have known The Shine Effect for several years. We were first introduced during my time working with a teen ministry, and again during my time as a student ministries director at Highlands Fellowship. Since meeting them, we have become great friends, and I have spent a large deal of time with them, both at and outside of shows. I have been present at shows as they have poured out their hearts to listening ears with more energy in one song than I can muster up in a day. They certainly know how to rock! Their full-of-life performances never fail to liven up rooms, open up hearts, and create an atmosphere of genuine worship for a rocking generation. Their musical talent and ability to play cohesively is something most bands only strive for – and I can imagine that it is due in part to the fact that they know each others’ musical strengths so well after the number of years they have practiced and performed together. The way they carry themselves is professional, their set list is well-thought-out, and their shows are geared for audience participation. They genuinely seek and worship God in each note, in each lyric, and in each venue – no matter the location or amount of people watching. The Shine Effect’s music is their ministry, as will be seen in the number of individuals who will be in Heaven because of their willingness to follow God’s call. Not only does the younger generation enjoy dancing, “rocking out”, singing, worshiping with them, and telling them how awesome they are, but they also confide in TSE, and the students really look up to them. I cannot think of better role models; the band members of The Shine Effect are some of the most loving, genuine, talented, and determined people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. TSE takes the time to get to know the people they play for, to keep in touch with them after shows, and to provide them with a lasting worship experience that changes lives forever. We are blessed to have such talented musicians and loving Christ-followers available and willing to provide a worship experience to a generation in need of authentic, all-in believers. I am honored to know this gifted family, I pray for lives to be changed because of their ministry, and I believe God is doing a great work in them.

I have been blessed to minister with The Shine Effect on several occasions through Barbour County Celebrate Recovery and Philippi Baptist Church in Philippi, WV. They never cease to blow us away with not only their talent, but their Hearts for Furthering the Kingdom of God! Josh, Christa, Ben and Maria Roberts are the Real Deal. Light is drawn to light and they shine brilliantly!

We have been honored to have The Shine Effect play for our organization on several occasions. We teach troubled teens in a program called “The Landing” and Josh, Ben, and Christa have been able to catch the attention of these teens in amazing ways. Their upbeat attitudes are contagious and they are very crowd oriented. Their music is very inspiring, but most amazing are their testimonies. They can really relate to the young, the hurting, the scared…no matter what you are going through these three will shine the Light of Jesus straight into a breaking heart. They shine Hope, Love, and Joy through their music and testimony!

My name is Aaron Carter. Until our closing in late 2012, I was the worship leader at Paradigm Church in La Follette, TN. I have had the honor and privilege to call all the members of The Shine Effect friends and brothers/sister in Christ for a very long time. They ministered several times over the years at our church. Each and every time we were blessed by what God did through them. They have a huge heart and passion for music ministry and that is truly what they are all about. The show that they put on will get your youth as well as the rest of your church engaged and entertained, but you will be blessed more by their fellowship and testimony. Beyond the performance, they have always been extremely professional and courteous at our building and with our equipment when they used it. I don’t have one negative word to say about the experience our church had with this group. Josh, Ben, and Christa are some of the kindest most uplifting people you will ever meet. You will not be disappointed by what God will do if they visit your church. Feel free to contact me if you would like to speak with me directly about my experience with them.

I want to take time and tell what I know about The Shine Effect. They are some of the greatest young people we know. They have such a passion for the Gospel, and for sharing it through their music. From testimonies to heart felt lyrics. They have played many shows for Grounds 4 Change and we are honored to call them friends. I would recommend them for small venues and arena shows. The greatest thing about The Shine Effect is that they have never asked for a penny. Yet God is blessing them in their journey towards refining Christian Music as we know it. If you see them live and don’t feel God working in them, trust me, the blame would be on your end. I have ran Christian venues for many years and have seen many bands come and go. But very few stick in my head and heart. The Shine Effect will be one of those that I will remember for the rest of my days. Don’t miss out if you have the chance to book them.

I would like to recommend The Shine Effect-Josh, Christa, and Ben Roberts to share their ministry with you. My name is Josh Berlin. I am a youth leader at Grassy Valley Baptist Church in Knoxville Tennessee. We have had The Shine Effect come minister to our youth 3 times over the past 2 years. We even took a short trip to see them play at another church in a neighboring town. The Shine Effect has a powerful message that is bathed with scripture and personal testimony. On every occasion I have seen them play, you can feel the power of the Holy Spirit moving in their music, words and actions. They are very poised and polite and take the time to speak and listen to anyone who has comments or questions. I highly recommend them to everyone. It is plain to see the joy they have for sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. From the fruit of their lips people are filled with good things, and the work of their hands bring them rewards. My name is Pastor Steve Gardner and I am the Lead Pastor of Christ the Rock Church of God in Knoxville Tennessee. This letter is to serve as a letter of recommendation for the Christian band Shine Effect. On two separate occasions, we had the Shine Effect at our Church for a concert. We found that the ministry of Shine Effect was outstanding, and the quality of their music was phenomenal!
I have been a credentialed minister for 34 years and have experienced many bands in that time. However, I have found that the ministry of Shine Effect is one of the best I have ever seen! Any considerations you can give to them to help further their ministry and broaden their influence in song, would be greatly appreciated, and a I believe a very wise investment on your part of time, influence, and resources!
If I can be of any further service, or if you need to contact me further, please feel free to.

I have met The Shine Effect at a concert, this was the first time I heard, and may I say we were overwhelmed, and that touched our hearts. To Ben playing that bass with passion, and Josh with his heart plays his guitar, then last but not least, Christa, that little lady uses the power of God through sticks… They love people and they love the youth. My family and I fell in love with them, oh and there testimony’s are powerful. Lords will I am going to get them on the streets with me. There goal is to reach souls. I am pastor Glenn Woods, and I am telling you that if you were to try them out, they will bless you and your church. Ben Josh, Christa has become our best friends, and we love them dearly. They play from the heart, and that’s why it blesses us.

I was first contacted by Ben Roberts of The Shine Effect about the band coming and playing at our youth service. At the time, I was the Youth Pastor at Garden City United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. The event in which they played was called the Vine and was a once a month non-denominational gathering for the youth of Savannah. Our average attendance was around 150 youth and represented about 8 churches. It was held on Sunday nights and involved worship, games, and a youth specific sermon. I was very impressed by our experience with The Shine Effect. We were on a very limited budget as a ministry and all they asked for was a spot to set up their merchandise table. In addition to being talented musicians, their ministry did not stop there. They were very interested in how they could help pray for us and our ministry. We would highly recommend them for anyone who asks.

Hello, my name is William Riffey. I have had the privilege of working with Josh, Christa and Ben (The Shine Effect) on two different occasions. In May of 2013, I helped stage an event called KNOX ROCKS. The event consisted of twelve different bands, from multiple genres and The Shine Effect was one of the bands that performed. I have to say, in complete honesty, they were by far the only band who cooperated 100%. They came early and was the last band to leave, all day long they were a blessing! The second time I worked with them was at a youth night at a church where I was to bring God’s word. They were amazing, not only because they performed their hearts out, but weren’t too good or snobby to interact before, during and after the service. I support The Shine Effect 100% and know they are doing an amazing job!

The Shine Effect is very friendly, professional, and tender when speaking to anyone about God. I know from being able to watch them it’s a joy and pleasure. My children love watching them! More bands like The Shine Effect would be great! I hope to see them again so my little ones can dance and enjoy the Word of God.

I am a current lead of the Celebrate recovery ministry at Highlands Baptist church in Jacksonville fl. It is with much honor to write this letter in support of the Shine Effect music Ministry. The Shine effect music ministry visited our church on June 25, 2015 during one of our celebrate recovery meeting. There ministry has influenced many of us that night. A night none of us will forget.
This is a very special band that is designed to bring all people of faith together in the celebration of music. It has been said that music is the universal language. Often the differences that come between people of different faiths come from the words we speak and the interpretations that comes from the words. With music, something different happens. There is a sense of community and a union with God that can come to us through music that often does not happen with words. This band did just that. The music presented touched the hearts of all ages there that night.
During their visit at our church, I seen many examples of their ministry and talents and was impressed by their Christian character, diligence and ethics to share their faith with others. This group was admired and respected by not only the leader of CR but also the members. During each of their testimonies they demonstrated the ability to raise to any challenge that they must face in there ministry or any other endeavor.
To conclude. I would like to restate my strong recommendation for the Shine effect. There is no doubt in my mind that with their music, testimony, and strong Christian faith, they will touch main lives. If you have any further questions regarding there ability or this recommendation, please do not hesitate to contact me using the information provided below.

We had The Shine Effect for our youth Sunday, 2/9/14, and our youth, myself, and the elderly people loved the show they put on. Christa, the drummer, had an awesome testimony, which brought tears to many peoples eyes. One thing I will say, they never pushed their merchandise. They assumed people saw it sitting in the lobby. If they wanted to buy stuff they would… that really stuck with me. And in closing, we have had many bands at our church and I never saw a line as huge of people wanting autographs and to buy merchandise… really awesome experience. I would recommend The Shine Effect for any youth event.

I have had the privilege of worshiping along side The Shine Effect for a while now. We have had them at youth, adult, and recovery venues. Every time they come and play they are amazing. They are absolutely professional from start to finish. They do an amazing job of ushering us into the presence of God, while praising Him through their testimonies. They really have a heart for the Lord and want to bring Him glory. I would highly recommend using this wonderful ministry. We cannot wait until they come hang out with us again!

The Shine Effect has been invited to a lot of our events and have played at almost all they were invited to. I have never seen a more God loving group .They all are very professional and very talented. We have been honored to have had them play at our events and hope they can come play again in the near future. I wish we had more groups like The Shine Effect that played great christian music and minister to our children in the Jellico community like they do. Everywhere they go they spread God’s word and love. Our group has been very blessed to have met them and listened to them play and we’re very proud to know them.

The Shine Effect is one of the most passionate dynamic groups that has ever graced the stage at Sipz Coffee House. The amount of energy they put into a performance is unrivaled and the measure of love heart-wrenching. The gospel of Christ is truly spread by The Shine Effect, and I am certain they will achieve great things through grace from our Lord Jesus Christ. The Shine Effect was also very respectful of our venue and our patrons. Our regulars frequently ask as to when the band will return and turn Seymour upside down for Christ again. If you book, sign, or invest your time into The Shine Effect, you will not be disappointed! This is my absolute favorite band to book and expect great things!
